William Coon

" workmanlike accompaniment by guitarist William Coon"
-Dirty Linen Magazine

Guitarist, composer and arranger Bill Coon has shared the stage with several jazz greats including saxophonist Jimmy Heath, bassist Chuck Israels and clarinetist Eddie Daniels. Two of Coon's most important mentors are guitarist Jim Hall and arranger/composer Neil Chotem. He has been performing professionally for twenty years and began his musical career in Montreal, where he received his degree from Concordia University and worked with many greats and now lives in Vancouver, where he has written for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Center Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the Woody Herman Band.

It is in a spirit of freedom that we asked William Coon to join us. Bill being a sought after arranger/composer and having the great flexibility of a seasoned jazz artist (and a deep and delicate musical sensitivity), we knew he would come up with chords that respected these simple melodies and enhanced their beauty. We were never sorry we asked Bill. No matter how many times I listened to this recording, every time I am amazed at his workmanship and at the immense delicateness and good taste he has. Bill always found the chord that offered the right support to the melody while giving it more color, more texture and a little spice.
